SQUEEZE EVERY LAST DROP OUT OF SUMMER
We’re officially into August and the deluge of back to school advertisements and fall trends has officially begun. But don’t let them rush you! There’s still time to enjoy sun-soaked days and warm summer nights. Make the most of the remaining time by sprucing up your outdoor space, whatever its size.
Take a seat. If you’re lucky enough to have substantial outdoor space, a simple patio set is well worth the investment (especially if you can grab it at an end-of-season sale!) Limited to a courtyard or small space? Don’t give up on that outdoor enjoyment. A patio bistro set should do the trick.
Get into the green. If you have a backyard, make the most of it with a flower assortment or a vegetable garden. But even an urban space can feel lush with a little help. Pot some greenery or flowers to add a little to the nature landscape. Regardless of where you live, don’t worry if you don’t have a green thumb – just pick the easiest plant to care for and let the magic come from a fabulous planter.
Make it plush. Even nature can be improved upon! Beautify your surroundings with just the right accents. Outdoor throw pillows add color and texture, and a cozy blanket will let you stay warm and cozy outside, even once the temperatures drop.
Put something soft beneath your feet. Outdoor rugs sure have come a long way! Once rough and limited to basic neutrals, they now come in a much greater variety of sizes and styles, and the plushness factor is way up. A great rug is one of the easiest way to pull the space together. It’s a great place to take a design risk and make a big style impact.
Light up the night. Everything seems prettier in the candlelight. Decorative candles can transform even the plainest outdoor space. Use them to line your steps, cover your tables, even hang them from trees. If you’re worried about safety, you can always opt for the flameless variety or even a lantern.
Eat outdoors. One of the best parts about summer is dining al fresco, but there’s nothing stylish about boring paper plates (and they’re not that eco-friendly either). Pick up a set of acrylic or melamine dining and drinking sets, and you can create a beautiful tablescape without worrying about breaking a plate.
