CHUCK IT: BETSY'S KITCHEN DISASTERS
We’re glass half-full people, we really are. But sometimes you’ve got to acknowledge it’s not always about what a space has, it’s about what it doesn’t.
Here, Betsy gives us the scoop on what to get rid of in the kitchen:
Bench
It may be trendy to have a bench on one side of your table, but is it practical? Sure it looks cool, but do you want to sit there all night without the benefit of back support? Neither do your guests. Opt for chairs. Your back (and theirs!) will thank you.

Open Shelving
Once upon a time someone somewhere invented kitchen cabinets with solid doors. Open shelving and glass-front cabinets expose your cereal bowls and mis-matched glassware. Think you’ll keep yours neat? Maybe for the first few months. After that, you’ll be stacking your dishes like the Leaning Tower of Pisa. Store yours behind closed doors.

Table Cloths
Does anything say fuddy-duddy more than a tablecloth? Saggy, stained, and generally disdained they also wrinkle and make your space look anything but elevated.

Curtains
Unless you want to constantly be removing them to wash out the grease and splatter stains it’s better to do shutters or blinds in the kitchen. They’re effortlessly chic and easy to wipe down.
