FROM SHEETS TO SHAMS TO FILLING A DUVET: THE WELL-DRESSED BED

Are you so pandemic fatigued you barely make your bed each morning? Even when you try your hardest does it end up looking like a disheveled mess? Have you wrestled one too many times with your duvet cover? Do you drool over the pics in your favorite magazines showing the perfectly layered, well-dressed bed but have no idea if you’ll ever be able to achieve such perfection?

We have a secret—it’s not that hard.

Follow the guide below and your bedroom will be drool-worthy in no time!

Start With Sheets

The foundation for any look, crisp, white sheets are key. They’ll go with anything and make it easier to layer on color, pattern, and texture as you build your dream bed. Go cotton percale if you sleep hot, flannel if you love a cozy feel.

Add Quilt

A quilt over your flat sheet has a couple of advantages. One, if you pick a quilt with pattern and/or color it’ll add visual interest to the bed. Two, in the warm months you can use it as your main blanket, and three, in the cold months it adds extra warmth under your comforter or duvet.

Top With Duvet or Comforter

The choice is yours. Duvets have more of an upscale, lofty look, but I had a friend who got so frustrated trying to fill hers she grabbed a scissors and cut it to shreds! Her reaction may be a little extreme, but if you’ve been there watch this handy video on how to fill a duvet cover:

Place Pillows

Layer pillows three rows deep according to the size of your mattress:

Toss A Throw

The last layer to your perfectly well-dressed bed is a throw. They’re great because, well, they just look so inviting. Also, they’re functional. Like the quilt, a throw can add extra warmth in the winter, or be used alone in summer. Plus a throw adds color, texture, and pattern to your bedding ensemble.
