Inquiring minds. Design enthusiasts clamor for updates on what’s new and now every year, and this year is no different. If you’ve wondered what 2023 brings to interior design, it’s all about the relaxed yet memorable vibe. Look for calming oceanic hues, bold reds, mixed metals, velvet, and more. Here are some of the 2023 hot interior design trends for a modern space:

Hot Design Trend: Two-Tone Lighting

Mixing metals goes perfectly with an organic yet unique space. Think chrome and black, brass and white; two-tone finished lighting is so 2023. We love this Reese Metal Round Chandelier from Pottery Barn.

Hot Design Trend: Fringe!

When it comes to below, fringed rugs are all the rage. They add a touch of playfulness to even the most traditional rug, giving the room a liveable, inviting feel—case in point, this Well Woven Oriental Rug from Wayfair.

Hot Design Trend: Velvet

Last year’s boucle gives way to timeless, classic, exotic velvet. So pretty but so inviting. We dare you not to want to fall asleep on this gorgeous green beauty from Castlery.

Hot Design Trend: Calming Ocean Hues or Bold Reds

Striking calm. Ocean hues like this gorgeous aqua are comforting and exciting. You don’t have to commit to an entire wallpapered and painted room to get the effect, either. Opting for art or decorative accessories in aquatic blues will also do the trick.

Conversely, bold reds—like Pantone’s color of the year, Viva Magenta—are also popular.

Hot Design Trend: Mixed It Up

Mixing eras is huge right now. Incorporating old with new give your rooms an appeal that’s both high-end and approachable. Where are these pieces found? Harper’s Bazaar says it best, “propelling millennials to rummage through nanna’s garage for swish sideboards or oversized lamps for recyclable retro pieces. And if the grandparents aren’t ready to give up their plush printed sofa, it’s all groovy — as the kids of today are just going Gumtree or Facebook Marketplace to source their goods.”
