IT'S AN INDUSTRY THING: 5 REASONS INTERIOR DESIGNERS LOVE INDUSTRIAL INTERIOR DESIGN
In New York City, where we do a lot of our designing, converting old warehouses into lofts has always been a popular trend. The reason? All of those original architectural details. But you don’t have to live in NYC to get the look!
Here are 5 reasons, as interior designers, we love industrial interior design:
#1: Exposed Beams
Truth: exposed beams look great with many types of interior design styles. That said, nothing says industrial like a naked beam or two!
#2: Worn Brick
There’s something so cool and edgy about brick when it’s inside a space. It’s definitely a hallmark of industrial design. Brick gives interest and can even be a focal point. If it’s original brick, better yet.
#3: Pipes
Like beams, pipes are a staple of the industrial style. We love them because they are so versatile. Not only for ceilings, specifically placed beams can be used as art, for lighting fixtures, and in the kitchen to hang cooking utensils. Painted, they add a pop of color to any space!
#4: Concrete
Not your old, cold industrial design staple any longer, concrete, like this mottled cladding, can add a good amount of personality to your space.
#5: Mixed Aged Metals
Remember when you thought all metals had to match? Nope, not anymore. Mixing metals, especially aged metal, is popular in industrial design. We’re definitely a fan. Chrome, brass, bronzed. Done right, it’s a gorgeous statement, and warms up a frigid interior.
